The Raptor Center Career Awareness Program - All Ages

Redig with owl

60 minutes

The Raptor Center Career Awareness program provides a unique and different twist to learning about environmental and veterinary careers - raptors! Using live raptors such as hawks, owls, and falcons, our education specialists talk about careers in related fields, such as environmental studies, wildlife management and conservation, environmental education, and more. Our connection to the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine provides us with a unique ability to speak about careers in animal science and veterinary medicine. Speakers cover basic career information such as educational requirements, exciting career opportunities, and their personal experience that lead them to working with raptors. The auditorium program is followed by a tour of The Raptor Center and the outdoor housing area where participants will see most of our 31 education raptors and hear some of their exciting stories.

Program highlights:

  • Programs are tailored to the grade level and interests of the audience
  • At least one raptor education specialist
  • At least three raptors such as a vulture, hawk, owl, or falcon
  • A tour of TRC and the outdoor housing area, where participants see most of our 31 education raptors (Tours do not go outside during inclement weather and courtyard maintenance.)
  • Hands-on teaching tools such as x-rays, feathers, wings, skulls, and feet
  • Interactive experience

Programs can be modified to meet specific learning objectives upon teacher request.

A group size of 45 or less provides the best educational experience. Larger groups can be accommodated with some program modifications.
